Description

Manuela Joore is currently Professor of Health Technology Assessment & Decision Making at Maastricht University. She is the head of the department Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Technology Assessment and member of the management team of the centre of expertise Quality, Innovation & Research of the Maastricht University Medical Centre+. She has a background in health sciences and epidemiology and holds a PhD in Economics.

Her chief current research efforts are directed towards using (mostly) model-based health economic evaluation to inform decision making regarding the development, reimbursement, and use of health care technologies, and regarding the prioritisation of  health research. She has a special methodological interest in the appropriate handling of uncertainty in health economic evaluations throughout the lifecycle of an innovation, and how this information can effectively be communicated to different groups of decision makers. She is involved in various graduate and post-graduate education programmes. She has >200 publications and is/was supervisor of 25 PhD students. 

She is actively involved in health care and health research policy decision making, both nationally and abroad. She leads a health economic evidence review group for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the United Kingdom since 2011. She is a member of advisory committees to the Dutch National Health Care Institute, the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development, and the Methodological Research Panel of the Medical Research Council in the United Kingdom.
